The road
The Lake Champlain valley, the Adirondacks, then the Hudson valley. It is one of the fine drives of the northeast, especially in autumn.
The border
Every passenger shows their passport and answers the officer’s questions themselves. The wait ranges from a few minutes to over an hour depending on the crossing, the day and the season.
Once there
Driving in Manhattan and parking there is slow and expensive. Most visitors prefer to leave the vehicle and get around on foot or by subway, with the driver taking over for longer journeys.
Before you set off
- A valid passport is required for every passenger, children included. Admission into a country is decided by its officers, never by us.
- Trips to the United States are subject to the legal, customs and insurance requirements that apply to carrying passengers across the border.
- Allow plenty of margin on the first day’s schedule: the border cannot be planned around.
